Provázek is launching an open call for art school students

The Husa na provázku Theatre is bringing together its Studio 60+ for older adults with young artists. An open call has just been launched for students and recent graduates of art schools, who now have the opportunity to be part of the current ‘Made in Europe’ theatre season.

Inspired by the slogan Made in Europe, young artists can collaborate with members of the studio for seniors, Studio 60+, to create small-scale original productions that will premiere as part of the Festival 60+ programme. The task for each team will be to explore the similarities and differences in the attitudes towards European identity held by people born in different decades, and to attempt to bring this intergenerational dialogue to the stage. The open call is now open until 16 October 2026.

Since the beginning of 2023, together with the amateur theatre group Studio 60+, we have been striving to draw attention to the often socially marginalised generation of older men and women, whilst at the same time dispelling myths about old age as a passive phase of life. Every year, we set the ensemble members a new theatrical challenge. As part of their latest project, we have therefore decided to entrust Studio 60+ to the next generation of artists. We look forward to seeing what emerges from the collaboration between people who would otherwise probably never have come together in a creative context. We believe that people of different ages can inspire one another, share their diverse life experiences and seek ways to understand one another,” says about project Marie Nedomlel, dramaturge and head of Studio 60+.

The theatre’s artistic management will select three teams from the open call. Studio 60+ will also be divided into three groups. This will result in three performances taking place throughout the theatre, which audiences will have the opportunity to see as part of the opening of the Provázek Theatre’s Festival 60+ on 9 April 2027. “Although the most experienced generation grew up in a completely different environment to the students with whom they will be creating the project, all participants are ‘Made in Europe’. As part of this year’s season of the same name, we at Provázek want to explore the narratives we tell about Europe. We therefore found it interesting to examine the theme of European identity through the experiences of different generations. Despite all the differences, what unites the young creators and the experienced Studio 60+ is the courage to engage creatively with the contemporary world. What’s more, this unusual dialogue between students and senior citizens opens up space for the emergence of completely unexpected situations – for example, we ourselves would be very interested to see what it would be like if senior citizens went on an Erasmus exchange, experienced Paris Fashion Week or headed to Berlin for a techno party,” adds the theatre’s artistic director, Martin Sládeček.

The open call runs until 16 October 2026, and students and recent graduates of art schools are eligible to apply, regardless of their specific field of study. Further details are available on the theatre’s website. The application form can be found via this link.
