Studio 60+ of the Husa na provázku Theater is not afraid of fear
The Seniors Studio 60+ of the Husa na provázku Theater will present its third original production, Neboj, neboj (Don't Be Afraid). The premiere will take place on Friday, March 13, 2026, at provázek.sklep (CED Cellar Stage).
The members of Studio 60+, an amateur theater group for seniors at the Husa na provázku Theater, have embarked on their third original production. In their new play Neboj, neboj (Don't Be Afraid), intended for audiences aged five and up, they draw inspiration from Milada Rezková's book of the same name and explore the phenomenon of fear through working with objects and their shadows. The premiere of the original production, directed by Štěpán Gajdoš, is aptly scheduled for Friday, March 13, 2026.
"Every season, we try to prepare a new challenge for Studio 60+ that will disrupt stereotypical ideas about 'amateur theater for seniors'. In our third original production, we explore the phenomenon of fear, which accompanies us throughout our lives. This time, we drew inspiration from Milada Rezková's encyclopedic children's book Neboj, neboj! (Don't Be Afraid!), which also gave our entire season its name. The production is not meant to be just an explanatory dictionary — the key is personal sharing of fears and finding ways to overcome them. For the first time ever, the age of the members of the ensemble is not the central theme of the production, but rather a natural circumstance from which their testimony grows," says Marie Klemensová, head of Studio 60+ and dramaturge.
The production will also have a strong intergenerational appeal. After several years, younger audiences will be returning to the theater. "The production is intended for anyone who has the courage to be afraid. Although we deal with the theme of fear, for me it is mainly about sharing and listening. We would like parents to come to the performance with their children or grandparents with their grandchildren and encourage them not to be afraid to talk about fear together. Performing for such an audience will be a completely new experience for the members of Studio 60+. That is why we looked for a playful way to portray different fears. In addition to acting performances, the production also relies on working with objects and their shadows. In shadows, reality changes in a similar way to when we are afraid – many things seem bigger or scarier than they really are," adds director Štěpán Gajdoš, a graduate of the Department of Alternative and Puppet Theater at DAMU and currently the resident director of the Malé divadlo in České Budějovice. The set design is by artist, animator, and puppeteer Anna Gumboldt, and the music for the production was created by Brno-based sound artist and musician František Hruška.
The Brno theater will welcome its first audience members, both young and grown-up, to its sold-out basement stage on Friday, March 13, 2026. The second premiere on March 15 is also sold out, but tickets are still available for the next performance on April 12 and for the Prague premiere at the ARCHA+ theater on April 19.
